The New Yorker on Google Maps
The New Yorker has released a New York events listings phone application for both the Android and the iPhone.
The Goings on About Town app provides listings for music, movies, art, theatre and other events in New York. The app includes a 'My Location' feature that uses Google Maps to show you what events are occurring around your current location.
The app also allows users to search listings by date, to access restaurant reviews from the New Yorker and includes recommended places from New York artists and writers.

Google Maps at the Fringe
The world's largest art festival the Edinburgh Fringe is due to start on Friday.
With over 2,000 different comedy, musical and theatrical shows taking place in over 250 different events what is needed is a Google Maps guide to the Fringe.
Enter stage right - Gigglemaps.
Using Gigglemaps you can click on any Edinburgh Fringe Festival venue and view the next five performances. The map includes a menu that allows you to filter the venues by category, such as comedy, cabaret etc.

What to Do with Google Maps
Leukedingenkaart
Thanks to some rather liberal legislation it has never been that hard to find fun things to do in the Netherlands. However if do find yourself at a loss for something to do in the country then Leukedingenkaart has lots of suggestions.
Leukedingenkaart is a real-time searchable Google Map of upcoming events in the Netherlands. Leukedingenkaart scans Twitter for events and displays them on a map. If you are looking for something to do in your area you can just drop a map marker on your location and the latest events will automatically be displayed on the map.
You can define a radius for the maximum mileage you want to travel and you can also filter the events by entering a search term.

Europe's Summer Festivals on Google Maps
Festival Searcher
Festival Searcher is your Google Maps guide to all of the music festivals taking place in Europe this summer.
The map markers are colour-coded by month so that you can get a quick overview of what festival is taking place when. I assume the size of the markers relates to the size of the festival displayed.
Telerama's French Summer Festival Guide
Télérama has produced a Google Maps guide to over 800 festivals taking place in France this summer. As well as being able to view the locations of all the festivals on Google Maps there is a comprehensive guide with detailed previews.
It is possible to search the map by location, type of music and by date. It is also possible to get driving directions to any of the festivals and to view Street Views of locations.

ShowHopping uses Google Maps to help you find upcoming gigs and shows listed on Last.fm.
To find out what is on in your town you just need to enter your location and the dates that are you are interested in. You can narrow your search by adding the names of bands and artists that you are particularly interested in. You can also widen your search by increasing the distance from your location that you are interested in.
The results of your search are displayed on the map and also listed in a slide-out sidebar. The list view sorts the results by venue and by date.

Design Events on Google Maps
A.N.D.
The A.N.D. project has created a Google Map to show the location of upcoming events in London, New York, Moscow and Tokyo in the fields of contemporary design, photography and architecture.
As you might imagine the A.N.D. project has put some thought into the design of their map. The map markers represent iconic buildings in each of the four cities. For example, New York's map marker is the Empire State building and London's is Big Ben.
If you click on one of the four building markers the map zooms to your chosen city and displays the upcoming events. Each of the event markers includes a label with the name of the event.

International Women's Day on Google Maps

To celebrate International Women's Day it seems that Pegman has unfairly been given the day off work and Pegwoman has been told she has to fill in. If you look at Google Maps Street View today you will see that Pegman has been replaced with Pegwoman.

March 8th is the centenary of International Women’s Day. To celebrate the occasion people will be coming together on bridges all over the world, from the Millennium Bridge in London, the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, to the Grand Barriere Bridge joining Rwanda and Congo.
Google is collaborating with Women for Women International on their 'Join me on the Bridge' campaign. Part of this collaboration includes this Google Map to help you find a bridge event near you.

News and Events on Google Maps
PixyCity
PixyCity is a new location based service using Google Maps to share and discover local news and events.
PixyCity uses Google Maps to create city communities where people can meet, talk and inform others. PixyCity is crowd-sourcing this local news and event data and uses Karma points to encourage user contributions.
For every event or news item added to PixyCity users earn 'Karma points'. Karma points can then be used to buy poster and billboard space on PixyCity to advertise an event, website etc.
Using PixyCity you can save a location as your 'home' and you can define the area that you wish to view news and events for by using the map zoom controls.

Google Maps Mania Map of the Week
CommonSpace
If you live in Philadelphia you should definitely let CommonSpace try to find you a great night out for you and your friends. CommonSpace lets you add multiple starting points to a Google Map and then finds things to do in areas that are convenient to you and your friends.
To start planning your night out just enter your name, a Philadelphia address, the length of time you are prepared to travel for and your mode of transport. CommonSpace will then show you the area within which you can travel in that time.
A slide control at the bottom of the map allows you to adjust your travelling time and expands or contracts the shaded area on the map accordingly. If you are planning to meet up with friends you can now add their names and addresses to the map. As you add your friends to the map their travel areas are also shaded on the map. Most importantly the area that can be reached by you and your friends is highlighted to show where you can all meet.
Now that you have determined where you are all going to meet you need to find a venue. In the map sidebar you can choose to search for events and venues from Yelp!, SBN, Philly Live Arts, Uwishunu and the Phillyfun Guide. You can choose from a large number of different categories including bars, restaurants, arts and theatres etc. You can also choose the date and time of events.
When you have selected a date, time and the kind of events / venues that you are interested in the results for your selected area of search are displayed on the map.
You can now browse the selections chosen for you by CommonSpace. When you find an event or venue you wish to visit you can add it to your 'Plan'. You can add as many events as you like to you Plan and when you have finished you can get directions and a link to share your itinerary with all your friends.

World Cup & Wimbledon Weather Mapped
Met Office Weather Events
The UK Met office has released an events calendar that will feature key sporting and other events taking place through-out the year and provide key weather information. The calendar currently features the World Cup in South Africa, Wimbledon and the Glastonbury festival.
When you click through to view individual events you are presented with a Google Map with a number of weather related layers. You can choose to view rainfall, the temperature, weather, UV and the pollen count directly on a Google Map of the event.

Local Search & Discovery with Google Maps
BlockWild
BlockWild is a Google Maps mashup that allows users to post, search and discover location-based, community-generated content like events, social groups, classified ads, jobs, real estate and Yelp reviews.
The site is a great way to see what is going on around you. The site geo-locates and relies on user-generated content so at the moment some areas may have more content than others. San Francisco and New York already have a lot of content and other areas will become more useful as people add content to the map.
You can browse the map by clicking on the color-categorized map markers or use the search box. The custom designed information windows are very cool, with tabs for information about the listing and for tags. The information windows have been designed with JQuery and look a lot more attractive than the default Google Maps API windows.

US Sports Events on Google Maps
Any Game Anywhere
Any Game Anywhere is a great site for fans of sport. The site allows users to search for sporting events in any US state that they are planning to visit.
The result of every search produces a list of events occurring within the selected time period and location and plots the location coordinates of the event on a Google Map.
The list of sport's events includes a link to a detailed page for each stadium listed. The dedicated stadium page includes another Google Map showing the location of the stadium plotting nearby recommended bars and restaurants. The dedicated page also includes a detailed review of the stadium.

Google Calendar & Google Maps
OUseful gCalMap Mashup Tool
Would you like to view your upcoming Google Calendar entries on Google Maps? OUseful has a really neat tool that can generate the code to embed a Google Calendar alongside a Google Map.
To use the tool all you have to do is insert a calendar ID (the tool explains where you can get the code) and the gCalMap Mashup tool will generate the html code that you can cut and paste into a website or blog.
One of the beautiful things about this tool is that you don't have to embed a calendar of your own making. For example you can grab the Google Calendar link from websites like Upcoming and create a Calendar Map.
So, for example, if you would like to display a map of Upcoming gigs in New York on your website all you need to do is get the Google Calendar link from Upcoming, grab the calendar id, insert it into the gCalMap Mashup tool and cut and paste the generated code.
Sweet and simple.
