This is a really cool mashup of real estate videos from YouTube and Google Maps. In essence the site maps real estate videos of properties that have been uploaded to YouTube.

It is possible to search for properties by location and the results are shown on the map and listed in the map side-bar. Each map marker contains a link to view the video which, when clicked, loads the video below the map.

The site also shows videos that have been uploaded to Vimeo, Blip.tv, WellcomeMat or Yahoo.

Promethean Planet Flippy

Promethean Planet is a free online community designed to provide Activclassroom teachers around the world with the ability to share new and innovative lessons, access a wide variety of professional development materials, and connect with fellow Activclassroom teachers. The Promethean Planet Flippy is a Google Map showing the location of members of Promethean Planet around the world.

As well as finding Activclassroom teachers users of the map have the chance to win some interactive educational goodies. Promethean's Flippy character is hidden on the map. If you find him you can enter a prize draw to win various prizes from Promethean.

There will be six monthly drawings from now until November. In addition to the monthly drawing, there will be a Grand Prize Draw in December to win a complete ActivClassroom.

The Encyclopaedia of Life on Google Maps

Encyclopaedia of Life

The Encyclopaedia of Life's is an online reference and database on all species known to science. It aims to help us better understand the plants, animals and organisms of the Earth.

Many of the individual species pages in this on-line encyclopaedia include a Google Map. The maps use data from the Global Diversity Information Facility to show the occurrences of the referenced species throughout the world. The site uses heat maps to show where the species is found and in what density.

The Encyclopaedia of Life is an incredible resource for naturalists, biologists and just about anyone who is interested in the world we inhabit.

Street Soccer on Google Maps

Calle Underground

Calle is an "urban lifestyle brand with a unique niche in street soccer", which I think, when translated into English, means that they sell t-shirts. Anyway, despite the marketing speak, Calle actually have a very cool website called Calle Underground which uses Google Maps to create a community for street soccer players.

Anyone can use the map to set up a game of street soccer, arrange to meet with friends and share personal and local calle community knowledge. Upcoming calle games are shown on the map with map markers. Clicking on a marker takes the user to details about when and where the game will be played.

The marketing part is that Calle are also using the map to update users on which stores are currently stocking their goods and which stores have 'fresh threads'.

Local Twitter Trends on Google Maps

GeoMeme

GeoMeme is the fun way to measure and share real-time local Twitter trends on a Google Map. Using the map it is possible to view Tweets from any location in the world. Positive Tweets are streamed on the left of the map and negative Tweets from that location are streamed on the right.

Tweets are located on the map using public data from a number of iPhone Twitter apps. The Google Map shows the thumbnail portraits of Twitters directly on the map. Clicking on any of the thumbnails scrolls the streaming Tweets to that person's message.

The site also uses the Google Static Maps API to show thumbnails of suggested locations in the search box. The thumbnail suggestions actually appear and change as you type a location. Very cool!

City Guides on Google Maps

Unlike

Unlike.net is a series of city guides for locations around the world providing information about clubs, shops, restaurants, galleries, parks and museums. Currently Unlike provides guides to Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Copenhagen, Ibiza, London, Miami, Paris, Sao Paulo, Shanghai and Vienna.

One really cool feature of Unlike is the 'mytour' option. Whilst visitors are browsing the reviews on Unlike, if they spot a venue that they like, they can add it to their mytour. At any point visitors can view all the venues that they have added to the tour on a Google Map.

Timelines on Google Maps

World War Two Timeline Project


The World War Two Timeline Project is an interesting attempt to chronologically and geographically map the events of World War Two using the open source Simile Timeline. The site has recently added Wiki style editing to the map. Registered users can now add geographic/chronological data points to the project.

The site now also has two other historical time-line maps:

The American Civil War Timeline Project
The Napoleonic Wars Timeline Project

With all three maps, historical events are added to the map when you use the time-line interface above the map.
