If you live in the Spanish town of Seville then this Google Map contains just about all the local information that you will ever need.

The map shows the location of parks, cycle paths, transit lines and routes and the locations of public buildings (police, health, schools, libraries etc). As well displaying local points of interest the map contains videos, photographs and 360 degree panoramas.

Spanish Election Results on Google Maps

Vizzuality have a history of producing some of the most interesting and beautiful Google Maps applications. Their latest effort for the Spanish broadcaster RTVE is up their with the best of them.

The map presents the 2011 Spanish electoral results in the context of historical electoral results and a vast range of demographic indicators. Using the map you can view electoral results since 1987 and discover how the electoral and socio-economic landscape of Spain has evolved over the last few decades.

The map allows you to visualise 15 datasets at 3 different administrative levels over more than 20 years. All the data is visualised on the map using colour coded custom tiles and the result is a great looking map that presents a huge amount of data via a user friendly interface.

Spain's Nuclear Power Plants Mapped

Since the recent disaster at the Fukishima Nuclear Power Plant we have seen a number of Google Maps that show the location of nuclear power plants around the world.

For example Zeit-Online created the American Nuclear Power Plants Map to show how many Americans live near nuclear power plants. Another trend has been to create Google Maps that display radiation measurements.

Radiactivdad is a Google Map that displays the locations of Spain's nuclear power plants and also the results of radiation monitors in the country that have been connected to the web using Pachube.

The Rain in Spain Falls on Google Maps

El Tiempo

Spanish newspaper El Mundo has created a very nice Google Map to show the weather in Spain.

The map's default view displays today's weather, however you can use the numbered icons at the top of the map to view the forecast for the next three days. If you click on any of the weather icons displayed on the map you can view today's weather at that location and view a quick three day forecast.

The map also includes a number of optional overlays to view precipitation and maximum and minimum temperatures.

Welcome to the Sounds of Galicia

Escoitar

Escoitar is a collaborative sound map for the Galician region in north-west Spain. Using the map it is possible to listen to the waves washing against the shore in Gijon, the ringing of the church bells in Trives and the ambient hustle and bustle of Ourense at night.

There is something particularly evocative about sound maps. Different categories of sound are displayed on this map with coloured map markers. The categories include nature, mechanical, people and religion.

Spanish Gas on Google Maps

enCooche.com

enCooche.com is a Spanish website that lets you find the cheapest gas in your area.

You can enter a location and the type of fuel you need and enCooche returns a Google Map of available gas stations and their current prices. The prices are also lised in the map sidebar, which is quite handy to find the cheapest price at a glance.

If you click on a map marker you can get further details about a gas station. The information window also contains a handy tool that lets you work out the total price for the number of litres you wish to buy.

Donde Repostar Gasolina

This Google Map will find the cheapest gas stations for locations in Spain.

The map has a search engine so you can search for any location in the country and the results are then tagged on a Google Map. Clicking on a tag reveals the current price for gas at that gas station. The prices are all scraped from the website of the Ministry of Industry so should be very accurate.

Real-Time Planes & Ships on Google Maps

This amazing Spanish Google Map seems to have set itself the task of tracking in real-time just about anything that moves. The map shows in real-time the location of ships, planes, mobile phones and satellites in and around and over Spain.

A really nice feature of the map is that as well as viewing the real-time locations of the ships and planes you can select an individual vessel and view an animation of its movements over the last 24 hours. It is also possible to select to view wind speeds and the current weather forecast on the map.

The mobile phone tracking seems to track just the one phone (presumably the map's creator). When I viewed the map it showed only the one track in Burgos. There are also a lot of other features to play with on this map. It shows upcoming boat races in Spain, the locations of weather stations, information from Spanish marinas and the position of satellites.

Robberymaps is a Spanish language crowd-sourced Google Map showing the locations of robberies around the world.

The site was launched in Barcelona and most of the user submitted reports of robberies are still submitted from the city. At the moment then the map is most useful for people who live in Barcelona or are planning to visit. The map is full of useful user submitted information about areas of the city that you should be particularly careful.

Barcelona is fairly well known for its gangs of pickpockets. This map could therefore be very useful if you want to find out the latest areas that the gangs have been seen operating in.

Guifi.net is a free telecommunications network in Spain. The network is composed of peer-to-peer connections. Guifi.net have used Google Maps to show the extent of the network.The map shows all the nodes on the network and the connections between the nodes.

Yata!


Yata! is a mobile based social network for sharing upcoming sporting events, shops with promotions, upcoming concerts or anything else you want to share. The application, for Vodafone, uses Google Maps to show the user submitted places around your current location.

A system of positive and negative votes is used to crowdsource the best user submitted locations. The home page of Yata! even includes a Google Map so you can explore the social network from your desktop.

Mapa Furgoperfecto

Furgovw is a website catering to the needs of Volkswagen camper van owners looking for places that they can park overnight. The site is a collection of user submitted suggestions for great spots where you can pull up and sleep when your are out touring in your van.

The site uses Google Maps to show the locations of parking locations. The map is not restricted to Spain and covers most of Europe and even parts of north Africa.

Spanish website Zangoa uses Google Maps as the main portal to holiday rental properties in Spain.

From the main map page you can select to view rental properties on the map by location, price and type of property. The returned map markers all contain links to the main page on the selected property.

On the property dedicated pages you can also choose to view another Google Map of the property, this time with local points of interest displayed on the map as well. The points of interest include local restaurants and sporting and cultural activities.

Real-time Spanish Traffic Conditions

Tuitrafico

Tuitrafico is a Spanish website that gives real-time traffic information and gas prices in garages throughout Spain.

To use the site just enter your current location and a Google Map loads showing the current traffic conditions in the area. The latest traffic related Tweets for the location are also displayed under the map.

If you want to view the latest gas prices then select 'gasolineras' at the top of the page. Once selected the map loads the locations of gas stations in the area. If you select any of the mapped stations you can view the latest gas prices at that garage.

Climbing Sites on Google Maps

Escalaren Cantabria

Escalaren Cantabria is a Spanish website dedicated to the climbing areas and routes of Cantabria and the Picos de Europa in northern Spain.

Escalaren Cantabria uses Google Maps to show the location of all climbing area and routes in the region. The map includes some nice features, such as custom made map markers and thumbnail photo previews of each climb when you roll over a marker.



The map also provides the option to view climbs in the Google Earth browser plugin. This means climbers can better assess routes by taking a virtual tour of an ascent. Or, if your not particularly into climbing, you can just use it to flt-over one of the most beautiful regions of Spain.

Spanish Google Maps Mashups Roundup

Accessia

Accessia is a Google Maps based application that allows users to view and get directions to university campus buildings and events. The University of Murcia in Spain is the first campus to use the application but more Spanish universities are coming soon.

The map includes a customised and fully detailed campus street map overlay on top of the base Google Maps tiles. Users of the map can get directions to anywhere in the campus. The map includes options to view Street View, webcams and pictures.

The map includes the option to find any campus buildings. From the side panel you can get directions, locate any building on the campus or find details about the locations of upcoming events to be held at the campus.

Minube

Minube is a nicely designed Spanish language social travel community that enables users to plan trips and share their travel experiences.

Minube allows you to browse the recommendations of other travellers and benefit from their experience. You can then plan your own personalised guide for your journey. including the places you want to see, the restaurants where you eat and the places you want to stay. The site even lets you compare flight and hotel prices.

Minube uses Google Maps throughout the site to show the locations of recommended locations.

SendaCLM

SendaCLM is a route sharing site for the region of Castilla La Mancha in Spain.

Users of the site can use Google Maps to create or find hiking or cycling routes. Users can include photographs and videos in their created routes. Users can add comments to routes created by others.

The site has plans to add kml and GPS downloading of routes in the future.

Barcelona Research and Innovation Map
The Barcelona Research and Innovation Map is a Google Map of all research institutions, research centres, technological centres, scientific-technical facilities, research and technology parks in Barcelona and its metropolitan area.

The map allows you to search its database by type of institution, by geographic area or by tags. All results are shown on the map and also listed by name. If you know of a research location that is missing you can add it to the map.

Locamio
Locamio is a free real estate listings site for Spain integrated with Google Maps. You can search for properties on the map by location and type of property.

The site includes Street Views of properties. Locamio also has its own Google Earth Layer and its listings are published in Google Base.

It's pretty hard to know where to begin summarising this Google Maps mashup from Spain. The site shows live real-time tracks for planes, ships, satellites around and over Spain. It is also possible to view current wind conditions, get information from local weather stations and do a lot more.

The live tracking sections of the site show you the live positions of boats and planes. If you click on any of the tracked vehicles you can get information that includes departure and destination information. It is also possible to view an animation of the vehicle's course.

To get a sense of the numerous features of this map you really need to visit this site yourself.

Quewifi.es is a website to find WiFi hotspots in Spain. Below the Google Map are a number of links to Spanish towns with WiFi hotspots. Clicking on one of these links will zoom the map to that location.

The WiFi hotspots displayed on the map are also listed below the map. Clicking on one of these links, or on the map marker, will load a page with detailed information about that hotspot. The details page includes a Google Map and Street View of the selected location as well as information about the signal quality and speed of the available WiFi.

Create a Travel Itinerary with Google Maps

Rutamina

Rutamina is a Spanish language website for creating routes and travel itineraries. Users of the site can create their own routes using Google Maps or browse the routes created by others.

Routes are displayed on a Google Map with points of interest shown along the route using numbered map markers. Descriptions of the points of interest are given below the map. Each point of interest on the route also includes its own Google Map.

Nearby Street Views of the route and photographs are also provided. It is also possible to select from a number of layers to view additional information on the map, such as hotels, museums, bars and restaurants.

The site includes integration with Facebook and an option to rate individual routes.

Google Map of Abandoned Spanish Towns

This Google Map shows the locations of abandoned towns and villages in Spain. The red map markers indicate locations that have full descriptions and links to articles on the site's blog.

If you click on a a map marker the information window includes a zoom in button. When viewing the map it is interesting to switch to satellite view and zoom in on the abandoned town. I think the site has missed a trick by not adding a Street View option. It would be great to see the Street View imagery of these abandoned towns, although I suspect Street View imagery may not be available in many of them.

Encanto Rural

Encanto Rural is, first off, a real estate website for rural properties in Spain. However it is also far more than that. It is also a photo sharing site, a travel community and a route sharing site. For each of these services Encanto Rural uses Google Maps.

The route sharing part of Encanto Rural shows hiking routes on Google Maps. Each route comes with a terrain graph and the option to view Panoramio photographs taken along the route.

The real estate section allows users to search for rural properties in Spain by price, type of accommodation and location. The results of each property search can be viewed on a Google Map.

Google Map of Cultural Events in A Coruna

Espazo Cultura Coruna

This Google Maps mashup maps cultural venues and events in A Coruña, Galicia, in Spain. The site includes two Google Maps for this northern coastal town, a places map (Espaxos) and an events map (Axenda).

The locations on the map can be filtered by category and a dynamic list is generated in the map sidebar and the relevant markers displayed on the map. Users of the map will also soon be able to add and edit places and events on the map.

The Espazo Cultura Coruna map also has the distinction of being the first to be featured on Google Maps Mania in the Galician language.
