The Telegraph AV Map

The UK yesterday held a referendum on whether to change the way it votes for government to the alternative voting (AV) system. The Telegraph newspaper has created a Google Map to show what the 2010 UK general election might have looked like if it had been held under AV.

The Telegraph have used the results of a survey asking voters how they would rank the parties in order of preference if a new AV electoral system was introduced. They have then used this data to try and predict how the 2010 UK general election might have panned out under the alternative voting system.

The map lets you view the real results of the 2010 election and the adjusted results.

Brazilian Gas Prices on Google Maps

This Google Map shows you the price of gas at Brazilian gas stations using data from the Agência Nacional do Petróleo, Gás Natural e Biocombustíveis (ANP). It is possible to search the map by location and by type of fuel.

The map markers automatically display the current price at each gas station and indicate the company that owns the station.

Preco dos Combustiveis

This Google Map shows the current (updated weekly) gas prices at gas stations in Brazil.

Gas Stations are displayed on the Google Map and are listed in the map sidebar in order of gas price. If you click on a gas station in the map sidebar it will be highlighted on the map. If you click on the map marker the current gas prices for the station will be displayed.

Introducing the Distance Matrix?

A new Distance Matrix service has been added to the Google Maps API.

The Distance Matrix service allows you to display the travel distances and times between a number of locations. For example, the image below shows the walking times between different London Underground stations and important landmarks.



This example Google Map uses the Distance Matrix service to show the driving distances from Edinburgh to Stockholm and Prague and from Greenwich London to Stockholm and Prague.

The US Food Stamp Map

Food Stamp Use by State

44.2 million Americans are in receipt of food-stamps. That is 14.3 percent of the population or about 1 in every 7. The Walls Street Journal has created this Google Map using the latest data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The map breaks down the data by state, showing how many people in each state receive food stamps. In Mississippi and Oregon at least one in five residents are receiving benefits. On the otherhand Wyoming has the lowest rate of recipients with just 6.6% of the state’s residents using food stamps.
