Daeth and Taxes on Google Maps

The Municipal de Mazatlán in México have used Google Maps to show all the locations where citizens can pay their property tax.

Users of the map can select from a list of the locations that will accept property tax payments and then view the location on a Google Map and in Street View. The full address of each listing is also displayed beside the map.

Citizens of Mazatlán may not like paying their taxes but I think they will appreciate the usability and design of this Google Map.

Find a Taxi with Google Maps

Taxi seguro

This application uses Google Maps to help users find taxis ranks in Mexico City.

To find a taxi you can search the map by street name. The nearest taxi sites are then shown on the map. You only need to give a street name as the application uses the Google Maps geocoder with a custom built database of taxi rank locations.

You can also search for taxis by simply clicking on the map. The results are then displayed on the map and listed in the map sidebar. If you click on any of the returned map markers an information window opens displaying the company's name and address.

New Street View Imagery for Mexico

There appears to have been a large increase of Street View imagery in Mexico and some new Street View images released in the UK.

In Mexico there is now a lot of coverage outside of the major cities. The update also includes the first pyramid to be found in Google Maps Street View

In the UK the new imagery seems to be in theme parks, such as Alton Towers, Legoland and Chessington World of Adventures

Baja Earthquake Google Maps

Southern California Earthquake Tweets

Mibazaar has quickly put together this Google Maps mashup showing Tweets about today's earthquake. The 7.2 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Mexican peninsula of Baja California but was felt in Los Angeles and even as far away as Nevada.

Mibazaar's map shows the latest Tweets about the earthquake that have been posted from California.

USGC Did You Feel It Maps?

The USGC Did You Feel It? website use Google Maps to show user contributed reports of earthquakes. The maps are, unsurprisingly, currently showing a lot of activity in western Mexico and southern California.

Earthquakes in the Last Week

This map uses data from the USGC to show recent earthquakes around the world. It also includes the latest earthquake news. The map uses different coloured map markers to show the strength of the earthquakes.

Street View Mexico Collection

Mexico has had Street View imagery for over a month now, so it was about time we had a dedicated Mexican Street View gallery.

Mexico is the first Latin American city to display images from Google Street View and this site is collecting the most interesting sights. Users can submit their own favourite images found in Street View and the Street View image is displayed directly on the Mexico Street View site.

Mexico Gets Street View

Street View imagery for Mexico has today been added to Google Maps. Street View is available for now in Monterrey, Guadalajara, Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta , Playa del Carmen, Cozumel and Cancun.

It also seems that Street View coverage in the Netherlands has been expanded. Utrecht, Den Haag, Eindhoven, Den Bosch, Tilburg and Leeuwarden have all now got Street View imagery (adding to the previous coverage of Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Groningen).

In the USA Street View also finally arrives in Hawaii.

Last, but not least, there has been a huge update to Street View in Spain, which now has almost blanket coverage.

Public Transit for Mexico City

ViaDF

ViaDF is is a free service to find public transportation routes in Mexico City, Distrito Federal. The site shows the fastest route from one point to another using data from all the public transport networks in the city and Google Maps. The map includes the entire network of Metro, Metrobus, Light Rail, Trolley, RTP, Pumabús, minibus, bus and commuter rail.

Each stage of the journey is listed above the map with information about which service to use and the location of each stop or station. Times for each stage of the journey is shown, as is the cost of the each stage.

Property Map for Vallarta, Mexico

MLS Vallarta

MLS Vallarta is a real-estate Google Maps mashup for Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit in Mexico. The site lists over 2,500 real estate properties including condominiums, homes, villas, residential and commercial lots.

It is possible to search for properties on the map by location, price and type of property. The resulting properties are displayed on the map with red pin map markers. Each marker contains a 'more info' link that will display the details for the chosen property.

Google Sightseeing have a great collection of interesting satellite views of Mexico found on Google Maps. The sites include Chichen Itza, Teotihuacán and the active volcano Popocatépetl.

Mexico Video Tour

This is one of my own Google Map mashups. It is a short video tour of Mexico, featuring videos from YouTube. The tour includes videos of Chichen Itza, Teotihuacán, Monte Alban, Xochicalco, Tulum, Popocatepetl Volcano and Zocalo.

You can use the links in the map sidebar to centre the map on the locations. Click on the map marker to play the videos directly on the map.

EstoyEnElMapa.com claims to be the largest geo-referenced database in Mexico with a search engine for local businesses. Businesses can be searched by name or by category and the results are shown on a Google Map. It is also free for anybody to search or submit a new business.

It is possible to get driving directions for each address or point of information on the map. Another feature of EstoyEnElMapa.com is proximity searching. From any point on the map you can find any type of business or point of information.

All the content on EstoyEnElMapa.com can be downloaded to GPS devices, and it is also available on mobile devices using the Google Static Maps API.

Virtual Vallarta

Virtual Vallarta is a number of Google Maps of popular tourist destinations in Vallarta divided into regions. Each map allows you to view the restaurants, hotels, real estate developments, shops and art galleries in that region of Vallarta.

Clicking on any marker opens a brief description of the venue with a thumbnail image.

Vallarta Real Estate Guide

This mashup subdivides Banderas Bay into eleven areas commonly used by real estate professionals in the area. You can select to browse aerial photographs and specific development locations throughout the bay.

Clicking on any specific development shows an expandable window that ties into a database, so visitors can check actual property availability and inventory.

Puerto Vallarta Hotel Map
This mashup for the vacation hotspot of Puerto Vallarta lets you scope out resorts, view photos and check hotel information.

All the hotels are geo-tagged on a Google Map of Puerto Vallarta and are also listed below the map.

Cancun Restaurants Map

This Google Maps mashup shows all the best restaurants in Cancun. It is possible to select the restaurants by type of food. Each restaurant is shown on the map by colour-coded markers and listed in the map sidebar.

Clicking on any of the map markers opens an information window containing a picture of the restaurant and the restaurant's address.

Cancun Hotels Map
This Cancun Hotel Map lets you view different types of hotels as well as restaurants, night clubs, malls, public beaches and much more.

This map also contains a number of interactive panoramic images of Cancun.

Cancun Downtown Map
In this map of downtown Cancun you will find everything from malls and supermarkets to movie theaters, hotels and hospitals. You can also view the main bus routes.
